Class Description: This class features classic finishes that Melanie Royals has been teaching for the last few years that students report have been some of their best-sellers. Approach this class not only as a chance to produce beautiful sample boards, but as the opportunity to gain knowledge in useful “building block techniques” that can be mixed and matched, tweaked and reworked to create and endless variety of unique, artistic finishes. We will complete six 16” x 24” samples.

• Stencil Shading
• Drop Shadow Technique
• Using Modello® masking patterns
• Troweling
• Gilding
• Distressing and Patination
• Incorporating stains and waxes

Activities:
• Learn basic stenciling techniques for both brush and trowel applications
• Learn Modello Application
• Develop good trowel control and technique
• Incorporate gilding and metal leaf into textural finishes
• Create distressed looks with patination and stain

Supplies to Bring: Stainless steel or Japanese trowels, assorted sizes Japan scrapers, assorted stencil brushes: 1”, 3.4”, 1/2” (2 of each), flexible smoother blade or rubber trowel, cheesecloth, paper towels, gloves.

Supplies Provided: Stencils, Modellos, all materials needed to complete samples.
