Class Description: Explore the properties of innovative decorative finishes suitable for the decorative artisan focused on countertop restoration. These finishes are also suitable for unsealed concrete as well as other hard surfaces including previously sealed concrete, laminate, ceramic tile, fiberglass, furniture and decorative accessories. You will be encouraged to design your own color combinations with color theory guidance from the instructor as we create complex troweled tile finishes. In addition, you will be introduced to combinations of aggregates, mica powders, metallic patinas, acrylic stains and powdered pigments to enhance the finish. A discussion of sealers for waterproofing and stain prevention and combination topcoats to create impervious surfaces will be addressed. Previous experience with troweling techniques and cementitious plasters is recommended but not required. A complete course syllabus, sample bid worksheets and conversion charts are included.
